What’s your main role in within the EnAlgae project?

I work at the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS – part of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany) specifically on the EnAlgae project as a Scientific Staff Member. My main tasks are material flows analysis, Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) and sustainability assessment.

What were you doing before you joined the project?

I studied agricultural biology, specialising in landscape ecology (ecotoxicology) at the University of Hohenheim (my diploma thesis was entitled ‘Impacts of elevated CO2 concentration and biodiversity on the carbon cycle of a Mediterranean model ecosystem’). After this,  I completed a Masters programme in agribusiness to combine the scientific research side with some economic points of view.

What attracted you to the EnAlgae project?

For me, personally, my focus is on sustainability; that’s why I specialised in environmental management. My Masters thesis looked at the development of a CO2-Inventory for Stuttgart airport.

I’m very glad to be a member of the EnAlgae project because I really like to work in an innovative field of research. I’m interested in the developing area of algal biomass production that may, in the end, be a sustainable way of providing bioenergy and mitigate GHG emissions.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?

I really love to travel; I like visiting different places and getting to know new people. I also love to cook for all of my friends.
