Work packages one and two
The Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) was founded as a learned society over 110 years ago. It is a research organisation, a partner of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) and home to the Culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa (CCAP). This is the most diverse collection of its kind in the world, maintaining approximately 3,000 strains of marine and freshwater algae, protists and seaweeds. In EnAlgae SAMS will bring its skills in maintaining algal cultures to develop best practice methods. It will create a full history of algal strains grown at the different pilot plants and also create ways in which the individual cultures can be stored.
