Visitors learn all about algae at the Strangford Lough Maritime Festival

Visitors to Portaferry on the Ards Peninsula were treated to a host of sea-themed events and activities at the Strangford Lough Maritime Festival, held on 1 and 2 June. EnAlgae sponsored the event and the Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) team were on hand to give people tours of the algal facilities and tell them about their work in the area. Seaweed sampling's a snip in summer seas

Seedlings deployed in late autumn of 2012 and winter 2013 on submerged longlines have now reached maturity and were harvested mid-late summer. Valuable data about the growth rate and composition of the seaweeds has been collected throughout the 6 month growing period. EnAlgae enjoyed high visibility at one of the world's foremost biomass conferences early this year; the European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (EU BC&E). Launch of Howest's pilot facility in Roeselare, Belgium - VIDEO

In March 2013, Howest launched it's pilot-scale reactor at local aquaculture centre, Inagro. The event was attended by more than 70 people, including representatives from the local community and from industry. Ghent University highlights emerging 'algae for aquaculture' market to businesses and policy makers

EnAlgae partner Ghent University joined forces with the Flemish Algae Platform to hold a workshop and field trip for businesses and policy makers in The Netherlands on the 25 June. The event, which was also attended by a number of academics, aimed to explore the current practices in the ‘algae for aquaculture’ industry with a special emphasis on the use of algae in shellfish culture.
