Sustainability analysis

The Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS) is a research facility of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and a member of the Helmholtz Association of German research centers (HGF). It is the largest scientific institution in Germany dealing with technology assessment, systems analysis and sustainability in theory and practice. Owing to its expertise, ITAS is contributing to EnAlgae by carrying out a sustainability analysis and evaluation of different production procedures for microalgae and macroalgae. It will do this by analyzing the material flow, the environment effects (life cycle based) and the costs. The aim is to identify the most efficient and most ecologically, economically, and socially favorable algae-based process chain. ITAS also aims to identify suitable sites for algae cultivation in North West Europe and to produce a concept for sustainable algae production.
